GEORGE TOWN: Plus Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) is expecting an increase in traffic from 1.5 million road users on normal days to 2.2 million motorists two days before the Hari Raya celebration.
This follows the 50 per cent toll discount announced by the federal government recently.
PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said that there could be an increase of between 40 and 50 per cent of road users during the two days.
He advised motorists to plan their balik kampung journey ahead and have ample rest before heading for starting their journey.
“To avoid congestion, we urge road users to plan their journey and head out early for smooth traffic,” he said.
He was speaking to newsmen after a handing over ceremony of 2,000 Nasi Beriani and Bubur Lambuk to staff and road users of Penang Bridge here organised by The Light Hotel today.
Azman said that self-service kiosks would be set up along PLUS highway so that road users may top-up their Touch n Go cards without any additional charges.
“We will set up 70 kiosks for road users in order to avoid congestion at toll plazas.
“We will also work together with the police, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysian Civil Defence Department to assist road users who travel on roads under us,” he added.
