KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man for robbing a security guard on duty at SMK Kepong Baru on Saturday.
Sentul police chief ACP R. Munusamy said 32-year-old suspect was picked up at a flat in Taman Wahyu 1, here after he and his friends on two motorcycles robbed a 46-year-old security guard at the post at about 3.20am.
Three other suspects are still at large.
“The four on two motorcycles, a Yamaha and a Wave had confronted the security guard with a parang, but only two got off the motorcycle holding a parang to ransack the security post and robbed the victim of all his valuables,” he said.
Munusamy said the incident was caught on CCTV and the footage has since gone viral, leading to the arrest of the first suspect.
He said initial investigations led the police to the flat where the suspect was staying. He added the suspect then brought the team to a motorcycle, believed to be the Yamaha used in the robbery.
“During the arrest, police seized a helmet, a pair of clothing, a set of keys believed to be the Yamaha motorcycle’s key, a Nokia handphone and a SIM card,” he said.
Munusamy said the suspect has been remanded to facilitate investigations.
A one minute and 42 seconds video of the robbery has been making its rounds on social media since Saturday.
In the video, the men had helmets on and one was seen holding a parang while threatening and forcefully searching the victim. Another man can be seen heading to the booth behind the security guard post to look for more valuable items.
Seconds later the man is seen walking out from the booth holding what looks like to be a mobile phone. The suspects then left the victim unharmed and fled on their motorcycles.
Munusamy added that police are searching for the suspect’s three accomplices.
