Pelita nasi kandar donates RM100,000 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia

BUTTERWORTH: Nasi Kandar chain Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd is the latest company to do their part in helping to reduce the nation's debt by donating RM100,000 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

The donation was handed to Penang chief minsiter Chow Kon Yeow by the company's board members at Pelita's Hari Raya open house and 24th anniversary celebration held at the Chai Leng Park multipurpose hall, here, today.

Pelita's chairman Datuk Shamsuri Ahmad said the company decided to contribute out of a sense of responsibility to help the government restore Malaysia's economy.

"When we see many companies and individuals coming forward to donate, we felt the calling to do the same out of our love for the country," he said.

At the event, Pelita also handed out aid to 1,500 people, made up of the disabled, senior citizens and school children, among others, amounting to RM300,000.

Shamsuri said this was part of the company's annual corporate social responsibility in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Pelita Managing Director Datuk Sihabutheen Kirudu Mohamed said there were no plans for expansion at the moment, adding that the company aimed to maintain and strengthen their current operations.

"For 24 years we have been around, we have 26 nasi kandar restaurant branches around Malaysia and one in India, and this is our best achievement," he said.

"We will maintain our business which includes strengthening the two hotel businesses we run in Penang and Selangor," he added.

Meanwhile, Chow said he was proud of Pelita's achievements and that it should serve as an example to new entrepreneurs.

"Who can imagine a business that started on a small scale now enjoys success not just in Malaysia, but overseas," he said.
