MADINAH: Malaysian haj pilgrims have been advised to ensure they have enough rest when they arrive here before they go about fulfilling their religious obligations.
The first group of 483 Malaysian pilgrims for this year’s haj is expected to arrive at Prince Mohamad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport later today.
Deputy head (pilgrims’ welfare) of the 1439H Malaysian haj season Nurrin Anuwar Shamsuddin said it was important for pilgrims to safeguard their health.
"They must drink a lot of water, don't overexpose themselves to the heat, and don't eat exposed food."
He was speaking to the Malaysian media after a Yasin recital, solat hajat, and doa selamat yesterday.
The event, to mark the start of the haj season with the arrival of Malaysian pilgrims today, was led by haj ibadah guide Ramli Ibrahim. The prayers were for a smooth haj season this year and the safety of pilgrims.
Also present were deputy head (medical) of the 1439H Malaysian haj season Dr Mohd Shaffari Marzuki, and Malaysian haj affairs vice consul Affandi Abdullah.
The first batch of Malaysian pilgrims departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang at 5.50am (Malaysian time) this morning.
Pilgrims traditionally visit Madinah to pray at the Prophet's Mosque or Masjid Nabawi, either before they begin the haj rituals or once they have completed it.
While in Madinah, pilgrims can also embark on a tour of the many historic sites in the region.
Pilgrims will stay in nine hotels in Madinah for this haj season. They can take in 9,661 pilgrims at any one time.
The hotels are grouped under three zones, with each zone providing the full suite of Tabung Haji services for pilgrims, including religious advice, medical, financial, postal, counselling and communications facilities.
