SSM warns public to be wary of fake calls

KUALA LUMPUR: The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) reminds the public not to be easily deceived if they receive phone call claiming to be from SSM as they could well be fake calls.

This follows a complaint received by SSM from a person who was almost deceived by the alleged fake call.

In a statement today, SSM said the complainant received a call claiming to be from a SSM officer.

“Recently, SSM received a complaint from a victim who received a scam call from a man who petended to be a SSM officer.

“That ‘officer’ claimed that the complainant owned a company which was involved in a court case and solicited money from the victim to settle the case.

“Sensing that something was amiss, the victim checked with SSM and found that the company did not exist,” the statement said.

SSM reminded Malaysians to be cautious and to seek further information and confirmation from the commission regarding any company or business notified by the impostor or fraudulent operator before making any transaction.

“Members of the public can also contact the nearest SSM office for further information on the fraud or lodge a complaint at SSM’s official website at ssm.com.my or call SSL Hotline at 03-2299 4400.”
