KUBANG PASU: The arrival of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2018 convoy to this district caused quite a stir among some 850 pupils of SMK Hosba.
Convoy head Norkhanizan Manaf said Kubang Pasu was the eighth stop in its mission to tour all the states in the peninsula since Aug 4.
“A total of 135 participants from various agencies are touring the peninsula in 20 four-wheel-drive vehicles and on 40 high-powered motorcycles. We started our 2,722km-long journey on Aug 4 and expect to arrive in Putrajaya, our last stop, on Merdeka day,” he said when met at SMK Hosba.
Among the agencies involved are the police force, Road transport Department and Civil Defence Force, as well as the Information Department.
Norkhanizan said the annual convoy organised by the Information Department was aimed at instilling a sense of patriotism and love of nation among the people, besides encouraging the flying of the Jalur Gemilang.
“We will be heading to Perak after this before continuing our journey to other states,” he said.
State Information, Communications, Multimedia and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman Firdaus Ahmad greeted the convoy when they arrived at the school.
Also present were state Information Department director Nasrudin Mahmud and school headmaster Yusri Bappu.
