'Termination of MAPS licensing agreement with DreamWorks Animation the right move'

IPOH: The termination of licensing agreement between Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) and DreamWorks Animation L.L.C was the right decision to enable Perak Corporation Bhd (PCB) to focus on its development and reduce the theme park’s ticket fee.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the decision made by PCB, through its subsidiary, Animation Theme Park Sdn Bhd (ATP), was a good move following numerous problems surrounding the opening of MAPS’ Dream Zone, which comprises of attractions, namely, Megamind Megadrop and Casper’s Birthday Blast.

He said the theme park’s management should collaborate with other parties to ensure that the already completed attractions could be opened to public who would in turn get their money's worth.

“I believe that the decision made by MAPS’ administration would assist them to open other attractions so that the visitors could enjoy an experience that is well spent.

“Currently, (the attractions available at the park are) limited and those who went there did not feel that it was worth the money spent. Thus, the price of tickets should be reduced,” he said when met after launching the Perak branch’s 43rd Peninsula village chiefs and heads, here, today.

Ahmad Faizal said he personally felt that PCB should reduce the ticket fees to help boost the sales of food and beverages as well as merchandise items.

He said he was made to understand that there were quarters who expressed interest in cooperating with MAPS’ management to introduce new attractions there.

“I am confident that the management would deliberate over profitable decisions in collaborating with the private sector,” he said.

On a separate matter, Ahmad Faizal had instructed the authorities, including the state Fire and Rescue Department to investigate and monitor the fire incident at SM Agama Maahad Al-Islah, Sungai Manik in Teluk Intan yesterday afternoon.

“I was informed that it was the third fire (at the school) and there must be something wrong with what had happened. So, I asked the authorities to take further actions following the incident.

“When I was at the state legislative assembly yesterday, since I was sitting next to state exco Asmuni Awi (who holds religious affairs portfolio), I have asked him to send his officers to the site to give aid (to the school).

“I’m not sure the amount, but we will extend help the soonest,” he said.
