502 disabled students enter MBR by creating art with open masking technique

JOHOR BARU: A group of 502 disabled students from nine schools in Johor who used the open masking technique to create art have entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).

“The recognition is for the most participation of disabled students in using the open masking technique,” said MBR chief operating officer Christopher Wong after presenting the certificate to Polytechnic and Community College Education Department director-general Profesor Datuk Dr Mohd Ismail Abd Aziz at the ArtBeat Festival 2018 at Plaza Angsana, here.

Wong said the participants from SMK Kota Masai, SM Pendidikan Khas Vokasional Indahpura, SK Pendidikan Khas Johor, SMK Taman Universiti, SK Taman Perling, SMK Seri Alam 2, SK Permas Jaya 2, SK Pasir Gudang 2 and SMK Ulu Tiram took a month to create the art. The programme was organised by Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan (PIS).

Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching launched the event. PIS director Rashidah Mustapa said the workshop was held to discover new talents.

She said it would attract disabled students to further their studies in related fields.

“There are about 400 disabled students in PIS studying in fields such as fashion, catering and graphics,” she said.

“There are disabled graduates who have succeeded in their chosen fields and can be an inspiration to others.”
