Negri Sembilan state government denounces LGBT

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan state government does not recognise lesbians, gay, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs) as it is against the teachings of Islam as the official religion and it is against the norm and customs and culture of the people, especially the Malays in the country.

Menteri Besar, Aminuddin Harun, said the state government and religious authorities would not allow any LGBT movement or privilege in the state.

“They can comment on anything about this stance, but we need to be strong because the culture of the whole community and Islam as the official religion according to the constitution should be respected,” he said here today at a press conference after launching the meeting of the of the Kariah committee chairman and the mosque’s secretaries.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa had made an apology in a statement and withdrew his inappropriate statement made during a press conference after meeting with a transgender representative, Nisha Ayub, last Friday.

Mujahid said he was aware that his statement had caused confusion among the public especially on the use of public toilets and some other things.

He had reportedly asked the public not to discriminate against the transgender group.
