Sysmex team all geared up for fun ride

KUALA LUMPUR: Leading by example, Sysmex Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Albert Tan started the Greener Sysmex 4D cycling club for his employees to experience the joy of cycling.

The 61-year-old, who took up cycling 10 years ago, formed the club last year with just six members. Now, the club has 15 members and nine folding bikes.

“We bought the bikes for the employees to use over the weekends to improve their health and group interaction,” said Tan.

Sysmex Malaysia will send 14 employees to take part in the 35km fun ride under the “New Straits Times C-Cycle Challenge 2018” at Eco Sanctuary, Kota Kemuning on Sept 23.

“Cycling is a good exercise and should be taken up by people of all ages since it is a low-impact activity.

“We have built up our team spirit and I see my employees having fun. Cycling is also one of the most affordable sports. Once a bicycle has been purchased, no fuel cost is involved.”

Tan and his employees are looking forward to the C-Cycle Challenge to bond with one another.

“Most rides tend to be held here, in Petaling Jaya or Subang Jaya. But this ride is organised in Kota Kemuning, which is quite new to our members. It will offer them a different challenge and experience.

“I understand the organisers have made preparations to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for everyone.”

Tan said more Malaysians were taking an interest in cycling and the government had provided dedicated bike lanes in the city centre.

“It is a positive move by the authorities and this can encourage Malaysians to take up cycling.”
