KUALA LUMPUR: Former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar died Saturday following a cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.
His personal aide, Datuk Mohamad Isa Ishak said the 77-year-old man breathed his last at about 8.05pm.
Bernama reported that Isa said he was informed that Abu Hassan had complained of chest pain in the afternoon and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
"However, at 8.05pm, the doctor treating him informed that he had died," he was quoted as saying.
Abu Hassan, who was Selangor’s 12th menteri besar, was appointed on June 6, 1997 and remained as the state’s chief executive until August 9, 2000.
The former Domestic Trade and Consumer minister, who was four term Kuala Selangor member parliament, stepped down as a Dewan Rakyat member to contest the Permatang state seat in 1997.
Following his victory in the by-election, he was appointed as the state’s menteri besar.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
