Six days in remand for PKR duo over alleged money politics

ALOR STAR: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today obtained a six-day remand order on two men suspected of involvement in money politics in the contest for the leadership of the Kedah PKR branch.

The remand for the suspects, aged 46 and 48, said to be part of the party's selection committee secretariat, was granted by Magistrate Mohd Hadi Hakimi Harun this morning.

It was reported that the 48-year-old man was nabbed at a restaurant in Alor Star at 12.20pm while the second suspect was picked up at 3.25pm at the Pendang toll plaza.

They were believed to have solicited RM20,000 from a man who wanted his name to be retained in a database as a registered candidate, to enable him to contest in the leadership selection.

The case is being carried out under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
