Confinement centre nurse remanded for 7 days over baby's death [WATCH]

KOTA BARU: Police today obtained a seven-day remand order against a nurse to facilitate investigations into the death of a month-old baby boy at a confinement centre here on Monday.

The remand order on the 22-year-old nurse was obtained before magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.

The remand order which ends on Sept 17, was obtained under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Kota Baru police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said police are still investigating the case under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

It was reported yesterday that a nurse was arrested following the death of a month-old baby boy at a confinement centre here.

Mohd Rosdi said the nurse was detained to assist police investigation into the case.

He added investigations revealed the incident happened at the centre at 5.30am on Monday.

The baby was found unconscious after being fed milk by a nurse assigned to take care of him.

The baby was then rushed to the Kota Baru Medical Centre for treatment but was pronounced dead later.
