Man from India ends up blind after drinking alcohol laced with methanol

KUALA LUMPUR: An Indian national claimed he went blind after drinking alcohol containing methanol, which have claimed the lives of 40 people as of today.

Relating his ordeal, Radha Krishnani, 32, said he had bought the drink, which was sold at RM8 per bottle, from a shop near the Bangsar Light Rail Transit (LRT) station here at 8pm yesterday.

Radha said he had only starting developing complications in his eye sight from consuming the methanol-laced alcohol when he was heading to town this morning.

“After arriving at the Bangsar LRT station from home, my eye sight started to become blurry before everything went dark.

“I panicked and sought help from friends, who were nearby,” he said.

Radha initially sought treatment from a clinic. With the assistance of Malaysia Global Rescue Humanity, his case was referred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital here.
