Singer Saleem dies from traffic accident injuries

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer Saleem, or AM Saleem Abdul Majeed, 57, died at the Universiti Kebangsaan Medical Centre (PPUKM) in Cheras at 6.30am today.

The Iklim frontman, whose hits include ‘Suci Dalam Debu’, died 22 days after being admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit following a motorcycle crash in Bandar Mahkota Cheras last month.

The accident on the Grand Saga Highway had left Saleem with 12 broken ribs, a cerebral edema and a punctured lung.

His eldest son, Muhammad Amirul Mukmin, said his father had been in a critical condition since Saturday night.

“After being in a coma for almost two weeks, my father regained consciousness.

“But he grew weaker by the day. And he suffered tremendous pain from brain swelling.

“This morning, my father’s condition grew critical and the doctors provided emergency treatment, to no avail,” he added.

Saleem’s remains will be transported to the As-Syakirin surau in Bukit Mahkota, Cheras for the funeral prayer, before burial at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery.
