KUALA LUMPUR: Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry (MOA) organised a “Street Attack” programme here yesterday to promote the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2018 exhibition.

The programme, which was a platform by the ministry, was conducted at various locations in the city to attract more local visitors as well as tourists to visit the exhibition from Nov 22 till Dec 2.

At the programme, a group of dancers performed “Zapin Pertanian” traditional dance and a flash-mob at three different venues.

MAHA 2018 secretariat director Azman Mohd Saad said the Street Attack was one of the 30-day programmes by the ministry to promote the exhibition.

He said at the exhibition there will be 1,500 stalls selling various types of local foods, fruits, plants and many more as well as 501 types of special local menus await the visitors.

“MAHA is an event that most local visitors have been waiting which provides various types of agriculture and agro-based foods, animals and other attractions.

“Visitors can enjoy 501 types of local menu and 13 pavillions will be showcased at the exhibition,” he said when met at the programme.

The theme for this year’s MAHA 2018 exhibition is “Makanan Kita, Masa Depan Kita” (Our food, our future) and the event will be held for 11 days at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps) in Serdang.

Azman also said an estimated 3.5 million visitors were expected to attend the exhibition.

“Apart from the Street Attack, we will also be organising motorbike convoy where some 300 motorbikes will head to Perlis from Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) headquarters in Puchong to intensify the promotion.

“Last year’s event recorded about 3.4 million visitors. We want a bigger crowd this year.

“I encourage everyone to bring their family and friends to this event,” he said.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to launch the exhibition on Nov 22 at 2pm.
