KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) assets Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) 3 and LMS 4 are expected to be built by May 31 and Aug 31, 2021, respectively.
RMN in a statement today said the progress of the project undertaken by the China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co Ltd (CSOC) inked on March 23, 2017 has been impressive.
“CSOC which is experienced in building warships for various countries has proven its maturity and efficiency in shipbuilding. The commitment shown by CSOC and its workers in keeping up the work according to the schedule has also smoothened the construction process,” the statement said.
The project is the country’s the first acquisition of defence assets from China which also involves the transfer of shipbuilding technology between the two countries.
Yesterday, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu officiated two ceremonies Shuangliu, China, namely the First Steel Cutting for LMS 2 and Keel Laying of LMS 1 which are being built by the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industrial Group.
He was accompanied by Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.
