KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will implement the Zero Reject Policy in stages next year to ensure special needs students (MBK) and undocumented children have access to education.
Its Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the policy is in line with MBK education code of practice stipulated in the Education Act 1966.
“The Ministry will ensure that no pupil are left out of schooling, whether the students have no documentation or disabled (OKU).
“Therefore, beginning next year, the ministry will implement the Zero Reject Policy for MBK in stages beginning next year,” he said.
He was speaking during a speech in the wrapping up of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) Mid-Term Review (MTR) at the Dewan Rakyat tonight.
Maszlee said that the policy would ensure every special needs student would be able to follow the Inclusive Education Programme (PPI) without being left behind.
“The ministry targets 75 per cent of MBK nationwide to be able to follow PPI by 2023 in line with the focus on love, happiness, and mutual respect,” he said.
He noted that the ministry is also actively engaging associations, non-governmental organisations (NGO), and related bodies over OKU education.
He added that the ministry would seek support from all stakeholders, including the private sector, to ensure the success of the Zero Reject Policy.
