KUALA LUMPUR: The government will allocate RM50 million to treat rare diseases, Hepatitis C, tackle stunted growth among children, as well as haemodialysis, among others.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the government will also continue programmes such as free mammograms to detect breast cancer, HPV vaccinations, and pap smear tests at government hospitals and clinics.
The programmes, with allocation of RM20 million, is expected to benefit as many as 70,000 women, he said.
“The government will also widen joint public-private sector programmes by providing health infrastructure such as the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Cataract Centre at Selayang,” he said while tabling Budget 2019 at the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.
He said to encourage people to take on insurance coverage, tax exemption for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions and life insurance premiums or takaful, will be separated.
He said a tax exemption of up to RM4,000 will be given to approved EPF or pension funds, while a tax exemption of up to RM3,000 will be given for takaful of life insurance premiums.
Civil servants under the pension scheme will be entitled to tax relief of up to RM7,000.
