Zainuddin Maidin in ICU, being treated for pneumonia

PUTRAJAYA: Former Information Minister Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Putrajaya Hospital, here, due to pneumonia.

His brother, Abdul Lazam Maidin said Zainuddin almost fainted at his home in Presint 10, here, and was immediately rushed to the hospital's emergency unit before he was admitted to the normal ward.

"However at 9am today, he was transferred to the ICU after doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia," Abdul Lazam said, adding that his brother did not suffer from any chronic ailments previously.

"This morning, Zainuddin could talk, but his condition is not stable," he said when contacted, informing that the former minister was still under observation.

Abdul Lazam said doctors discouraged his brother from engaging in lengthy conversations which led to the family deciding on not allowing visitors, except for close family and friends, until his condition becomes stable.

On Twitter, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak asked for all to pray for Zainuddin's quick recovery.

"I was informed that Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin is at the Putrajaya Hospital for treatment. Let us all pray for Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin to get well soon," Najib posted in Malay.
