KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the fireman who was injured in a riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya on Tuesday morning, is showing signs of recovery after being transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Fire and Rescue Department director-general, Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid, said his condition has improved since being transferred to IHN from the Ramsay Sime Darby Health Centre on Tuesday night.
“His condition is much better than last night, based on the readings and explanation given by IJN’s doctors.
“His family is also doing well, their spirits are up and are feeling better at seeing the improvement in Muhammad Adib.
“We offer our thanks to IJN. We will continue to pray for Muhammad Adib’s health,” he told reporters after visiting the fireman at IJN on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, IJN’s cardiothoracic surgical advisor, Datuk Dr Mohd Nazeri Nordin, said Muhammad Adib is still on a life support system.
“He was given extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment at 1.30am.
“The procedure was completed at 2.30am. The machine aids his breathing following the severe injuries he sustained.
“For now, he is in stable but still critical condition,” he said in a statement.
Muhammad Adib was transferred to the IJN at 11.33pm Tuesday night.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin was quoted as saying that the decision to transfer Muhamamd Adib was done following a discussion with IJN to enable him to receive appropriate treatment.
Muhammad Adib, 24, was among the firemen who had responded to an emergency call at the temple on early Tuesday morning. The team were deployed to put out a car fire.
Initial reports said he was dragged out of a fire engine and assaulted by rioters. He sustained broken ribs and internal damage in the 1am incident.
