Strong currents, zero visibility: Fireman on sinkhole search [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: "We conducted dives in sewage water, facing strong currents and zero visibility, and the space constraints made it difficult to move and locate the victim."

This is what Fire and Rescue Department operations division senior officer Alimaddia Bukri said about the challenges faced in the search for a woman who was swallowed by a sinkhole in Masjid India.

"It is scary to descend (into the manholes), but this is our job, we have to fight our fear and leave it to the Almighty," he said in a video on TikTok.

"We discuss all our decisions (about the operation) with experts."

The woman, a 48-year-old Indian national fell into the sinkhole while walking in the area on Friday. She has yet to be found.

"We will do anything, we will do all we can for anyone in trouble," he said, adding a victim's race, religion, nationality and status did not matter.

Alimaddia said he was thankful for the public's prayers for their safety.

"To the victim's family, we will search for her as if she were one of our own family members."
