KUALA LUMPUR: It will cost nearly RM800,000 to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) by an average of one per cent nationwide.
Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar said the ministry would place a special focus on reducing NRW in every state, and would seek the assistance of MoF and other agencies on ways to do so.
“The average NRW is 35 per cent. States like Pahang have NRW at 46 per cent, Kelantan at 67 per cent and Perlis at 76 per cent,” he said during a wrapping-up speech on his ministry’s allocation from the Supply Bill 2019 at Dewan Rakyat this afternoon.
“Nearly RM800,000 in average expenditure is needed to cut down NRW by one per cent.
“I will discuss with the EPU (Economic Planning Unit) and MoF (Finance Ministry).
“We need allocation and aggressive programmes to reduce NRW nationwide. “We will incur loss if NRW is not reduced.”
