Syed Saddiq not behind move to submit memorandum on Waythamoorthy

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is not the mastermind behind the move to submit a memorandum demanding Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, P Waytha Moorthy to step down.

It is understood that the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) youth chief was merely present with three other youth exco members when the memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister's Department.

Sources told the NSTP that Syed Saddiq as the Bersatu Youth Chief with ministerial rank only paved the way for several of his friends to hand over the memorandum directly to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"If Syed Saddiq was not present, we would not have been able to enter (the Prime Minister's office).

"He 'smuggled' us in by allowing us to hitch a ride to enter the PMO (Prime Minister's Office)" he said today.

The source was responding to Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, P. Ramasamy who was crticial of Bersatu Youth for demanding that Waythamoorthy step down as a minister.

NSTP was made to understand that the memorandum which was handed over to the Prime Minister on Wednesday was done in a hush-hush manner, so as not to attract attention, specially the members of the media.

The memorandum demanding Waythamoorty to step down was undertaken after he was said to have failed to reduce ethnic tensions following the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple at USJ 25, Subang Jaya. Waythamoorthy was also said to have blamed the Police for the incident.
