Former sports minister Syed Saddiq to compete in Ironman Langkawi

LANGKAWI: Over 1,800 athletes from 51 countries are set to test their endurance and fortitude at Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Langkawi 2024 this Saturday.

Of the total, 1,044 athletes will compete in Ironman Malaysia while 756 athletes will participate in Ironman 70.3 Langkawi.

Muar Member of Parliament and former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, 31, " is among those listed for the Ironman Malaysia. It will be his first ever attempt in the gruelling race.


Ironman Malaysia consists of three disciplines: 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run. Ironman 70.3 Langkawi consists of 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run.

Organiser World Endurance Malaysia Sdn Bhd (WEMSB) said Australian Josh Amberger, 35, the reigning champion in the men's professional category, will return to compete, but his wife, Ashleigh Gentle, 33, the reigning champion in the women's professional category, won't be participating this time,

WEMSB said the oldest participant in Ironman Malaysia is Japanese Masanori Mori, 72, while Australian Pamela Williams, 71, is the oldest for Ironman 70.3 Langkawi.
