KANGAR: The state Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) must be strict and clear when announcing the period for the appointment of imams in Perlis.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan said this was to prevent problems in the future as well as confusion among the people especially those who were appointed as imams in the state.
“This is to avoid the dispute over the dismissal of imams, which surfaced recently, from recurring.
“This will also prevent irresponsible from making accusations against MAIPs with regards to the appointment of imams in Perlis,” he said when contacted today.
It was reported that 25 imams in Perlis had their contract terminated while 10 others were transferred effective Tuesday.
Quarters unhappy with the abrupt dismissal claimed that the notice of their termination dated Dec 31, 2018 by MAIPs was written in a hurry as there was no record of reference on top of the letter besides of it being too short.
Wan Saiful also appealed all quarters to uphold and respect the advice of Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who had called imams affected by the dismissal to accept the matter with an open heart.
“I am all for the call made by the Raja Muda of Perlis for all parties to give our undivided support to the new appointment of imams and committee members of mosques in the state.
“I also appeal to the people from lengthening the issue, which does not benefit anyone especially the state in general.
“I am confident with the aspiration of Raja Muda of Perlis to ensure the sovereignty of the Islamic religion in Perlis,” he said.
