Mat Sabu confirms son arrested in drug raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has confirmed that it was his son who was arrested in a drug raid at an entertainment outlet here earlier this morning.

The Amanah president also said he would leave the matter to the police.

“My family and I are leaving it fully to the police to act based on the legal process it entails.

“My son, like others, will also be subjected to Malaysian law,” said Mohamad.

NST Online earlier reported that a minister’s son was arrested by the police during a raid at an entertainment outlet in Jalan Ampang here today.

The 31-year old was detained at 3am alongside 101 other people for drug-related offences.

It is understood that the man was with his 33-year-old friend when the raid took place.

The raid was conducted by the Dang Wangi police headquarters’ Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism unit (D7).

The man was subjected to a urine test, in which he tested positive for marijuana.

The man was then taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for further examination and a second urine test, a source familiar with the matter said.

Meanwhile, City deputy police chief Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob when contacted confirmed the arrest.

“The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he told the NSTP today.
