BATU PAHAT: Police crippled a drug trafficking syndicate in an Aug 1 raid, arresting seven suspects, including three women, and seizing nearly RM1 million in narcotics.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the syndicate's modus operandi was to repack the imported drugs, before trafficking it to local drug addicts.
"The suspects aged between 21 and 38, including the women tested positive for methamphetamines. However, none had previous criminal records," he said in a statement today.
Investigations also revealed that the rented apartment, where the syndicate was busted, was used as the contraband repacking and distribution centre.
The police seized narcotics valued at RM895,662, including 65 ecstasy pills, 5,219.71 grammes of ecstasy powder, 56 Erimin 5 pills, and 96.46 grammes of ketamine.
He said the seized drugs could satisfy the cravings of approximately 19,000 addicts.
Also confiscated during the raid were RM2,380 in cash, a sports utility vehicle worth RM84,800, and a motorcycle.
The suspects have been remanded to assist with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence or imprisonment with whipping.
