KUALA LUMPUR: About 100 to 150 cars kept at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) car depot at Jalan 5 off Jalan Chan Sow Lin here were destroyed in an early fire today.
City Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a distress call was received at 2.08am.
“Two teams consisting 21 firefighters led by operation commander Zulkifly Ramli with two Federal Reserve Trucks (FRT), three Rapid Intervention Motorcycles (RIM) and one Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) from Bandar Tun Razak and Jalan Hang Tuah were deployed to the scene.
“After assessing the situation, the operation commander then sought assistance from nearby fire station as the fire had engulfed the car depot with an area of 70x40 sq m,” he said in a statement today.
The spokesman said the fire was brought under control at 4.32am and initial assessment showed that around 100 to 150 cars were destroyed.
“The flame was doused at 4.53am and did not involve any victim. Investigation unit that arrived at 6.22am is still at the scene to find out the cause of incident,” he said.
He added that a total of 57 firefighters involved in the rescue operation with four FRTs, three water tankers, three RIMs and one EMRS.
