Toddler drowns in bucket of water in Kuala Nerus home

KUALA TERENGGANU: An 18-month-old boy drowned in a bucket of water at his home in Kampung Bukit Tunggal, Kuala Nerus, yesterday.

The toddler’s body was discovered by his father at about 12.30pm, Bernama reported.

It is learnt that the incident occurred while the child’s family was asleep. The toddler is believed to have ventured unattended into the home’s bathroom.

“Upon waking up at about 12 noon, the victim’s father became aware that his youngest son was not around, and went in search of him.

“He was shocked to find the boy in the bathroom with his head in a bucket. The boy had turned blue.

“He rushed the toddler to a health clinic, where he was pronounced dead 50 minutes later,” said acting Kuala Terengganu police chief Superintendent Suffian Sulaiman.

He added that the case has been classified as “sudden death”.
