MARAN: An elderly woman underwent a seven-hour operation to reattach her arm ligament after she was attacked by a wild boar at Felda Jengka Satu near here yesterday.
In the 6.30pm incident, Roseminah Safar, 70, suffered severe injuries to her arm and leg and was forced to undergo emergency surgery at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh, Pahang.
Speaking to reporters today, the Felda settler said moments before the incident, she heard loud noises and saw a herd of wild boars gathering behind her neighbour’s home.
She said there were two adult wild boars and six piglets foraging for food near where her three grandchildren were playing.
Fearing for the children's safety, Roseminah said she decided to chase away the wild animals.
“I lunged forward at the animals, catching the male wild boar by surprise. It suddenly charged at me... I tried to run but fell.
“The boar attacked, bit and tossed me around. My hand and leg were injured and I was bleeding profusely.
“Luckily, my husband (Abdul Rahman Dolaji) saw what happened and chased it away with a stick,” she said.
Her daughter, Norkintan Abdul Rahman, 40, said her mother, who is now in a stable condition, required 30 stitches to her arm.
“We hope the Wildlife and National Parks Department will take immediate action and curb the intrusion of wild boars to prevent such incidents from recurring,” she said.
