KUALA LUMPUR: The government is committed to doing what is best for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and the country, says Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.
“The finance minister (Lim Guan Eng) has said that Malaysia will not close Malaysia Airlines Bhd, so the workers and the rakyat should not worry about its future,” he said at the launch of #funtasticlima’19 at KL Sentral here, today.
“The government is committed to do what is best for the airline and the country.”
The Transport Ministry’s Sports and Wellness Club and Lima’19 secretariat is launching #funtasticlima’19 In conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) Exhibition, which is taking place from March 26 to 30.
The 24-hour travel competition, which ends tomorrow in Langkawi, is modelled after the Amazing Race.
The goal of the 15 participating teams is to reach Hotel Adya Chenang in Langkawi using a minimum of three forms of public transport.
They must take selfies and post them on social media as proof.
Kamaruddin said this was because the ministry wants to promote public transport.
The teams are divided into three categories — general public (11 teams), media (two teams) and influencers (two teams). Each team must comprise two participants.
“With the upcoming Lima, we will have many foreigners and locals who will make their way to the exhibition. What better way to promote public transport than through something fun like this event.
“I would like to thank the ministry’s sports club for taking the initiative to organise this with the Lima’19 secretariat.”
The winning team will receive RM3,000 and two return flight tickets to Bangkok.
The first runner-up will receive RM2,000 and two flight tickets to Jakarta, while the second runner-up will receive RM1,000 and flight tickets to Singapore.
