JAKARTA: A second Malaysian has been found dead at the Tiu Kelep Senaru waterfall in Lombok, Indonesia, which was struck by an earthquake-triggered landslide on Sunday.
The victim was found in the landslide debris at the popular tourist site, Indonesia’s Antara news agency reported.
However, rescuers are unable to recover the body, as it is wedged between large rocks, said Mataram Search and Rescue Operations public relations officer Gusti Lanang Wisnuwandana.
The full identity of the victim has yet to be ascertained, but a spokesman for the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta confirmed the news.
Earlier, it was reported that one Malaysian was killed, six injured and another six still unaccounted for in the landslide disaster, which followed two earthquakes measuring above 5.0 on the Richter scale which struck the island at 2.07pm and 2.09pm.
The deceased was identified as 56-year-old Datin Tai Siew Kim, the deputy executive editor in chief of Sin Chew Daily.
She had been on holiday on the resort island with her son and several friends, and was one of 22 Malaysians at the waterfall when the earthquakes struck.
According to Bernama, three people have been killed, 44 injured and up to 500 homes damaged or destroyed in the two earthquakes.
