Woman feared drowned after motorcycle plunged into a river

ALOR STAR: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted to locate a woman who is feared drowned in Sungai Titi Haji Idris, Kampung Alor Sekawan here today.

Jalan Raja Fire and Rescue Station chief Wan Azizul Hakim Wan Jaafar said the operation was activated following information on the discovery of the victim's motorcycle in the river about 9.54am today.

"We have received a report that a woman in her 30s is feared drowned after her motorcycle plunged into the river.

"The SAR operation was immediately mounted to locate the woman, in her 30s, with the assistance of the police after the rescue team arrived at the scene about 10.22am," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the 37-year-old victim's employer had contacted her family when she failed to turn up for work this morning.

"Her employer tried to contact the victim but failed, before finding her motorcycle at Sungai Titi Haji Deris riverbank at about 9.15am," she said in a statement.

Salawati said a police team was deployed to the scene after receiving a report from the victim's family at about 10.13am.

"As at 3.45pm, the SAR operation is still ongoing near the location where the victim's motorcycle was found," she said.
