ISKANDAR PUTERI: A search and rescue (SAR) mission is underway to locate a motorcyclist who fell off the Second Link bridge into the Johor Strait today.
District Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Ishak Noh said they received the emergency call, alerting them to the incident at Km10 of the Second Link bridge heading towards Singapore, at 7.17am.
The man's motorcycle was found at the side of the road.
The SAR operation is ongoing. The victim has yet to be located at press time.
The Malaysia-Singapore Second Link in Gelang Patah connects Johor and Singapore. It is officially known as the Tuas Second Link, in the republic.
The 1.92km bridge was built in 1998 to reduce traffic congestion at the Johor-Singapore Causeway.
The bridge supports a dual, three-lane carriageway, linking Kampong Ladang in Tanjung Kupang, Johor, to Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim in Tuas, Singapore.
