Food delivery via helicopter? GrabFood says it's happening...this April 1

THE thing about April 1 is that it is hard to take anything associated with the date seriously.

This however has not deterred GrabFood from choosing April 1 to launch their "new service".

On their Facebook page today, GrabFood teased a video about satisfying food cravings, near or far.

Calling it the "GrabFoodCopter", they said those interested could sign up to be a beta tester of the new service in which "all your favourites delivered to your doorstep from literally anywhere via helicopter".

In the video, GrabFood opted to highlight an issue that is close to Malaysians, and Singaporeans: Whose food tastes better?

It opens with GrabFood asking, "Are you a Malaysian who loves Singaporean food?" and later shows a GrabFood rider delivering food after arriving in what sounds like a helicopter.

The e-hailing company also changed their cover photo to one that shows a man standing outside a green helicopter, with the words "GrabFoodCopter" on it.

While some Facebook users commented this could be an April Fools' joke, GrabFood responded by urging them to sign up as a beta tester.

On the sign up page, it says the registration is limited to the first 1,500 respondents.

They also asked those interested to tell them which restaurant from Singapore they would like to see listed on Malaysia's GrabFood.

With April 1 just two days away, it remains to be seen if we will soon be hearing the whirring sounds of green helicopters buzzing over our heads with our lunches and dinners, or if this is an elaborate, but cool, marketing gimmick.
