SANDAKAN: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) will consider fielding a candidate for the upcoming Sandakan by-election.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said an official announcement will be made after the party discussed the matter with other parties within Gabungan Bersatu Sabah (GBS).
"At this point, we have yet to make a decision. The party leadership will make the decision after meeting with our partners in GBS.
"We will, for now, go down to the ground and gather all the necessary data and feedback from party members and supporters in Sandakan." he said in a statement today.
Maximus said PBS members in the area remained loyal to the party despite being offered to join Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) and its allies.
He said based on the initial information, many voters had regretted voting for Pakatan Harapan-Warisan in the last general election due to many unfulfilled election promises.
"They felt cheated because promises were not fulfilled and nothing new is being done to improve the administration after a year in government.
"Businesses in Sandakan are not doing so well due to the rising cost of goods and services. This is made worse with the drop in the prices of palm oil, rubber and influx of illegal foreign workers." he added.
