Penang eatery ordered closed after rat droppings found [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: A well known wantan mee restaurant along Lebuh Campbell here has been ordered to be closed for two weeks.

This was after rat droppings were found in the premises, here, today,

State Health Department officials, who conducted simultaneous checks at the premises in the northeast district this morning, stumbled upon the rat droppings in the restaurant’s kitchen.

Checks also showed that its workers failed to attend the compulsory courses conducted by the Health Department and that food handlers did not wear the proper attire.

The restaurant's management also failed to prove that its workers had gone through health inspections or received the necessary vaccinations.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Wan Mansor Hamzah warned the restaurant's owner to abide by the stipulated health regulations.

The owner said he was not responsible for the rat droppings, claiming that he had implemented a proper pest control system.

He also explained there were many rats in the vicinity, especially in the evenings, as the restaurant was located close to the wet market.

However, his protests proved futile.
