TASEK GELUGOR: Members of the congregation at the Ara Kuda Mosque here, preparing to perform the noon prayer, were surprised to discover a baby girl placed in a box and left along the sidewalk of the mosque this afternoon.
The newborn baby girl was found at about 1.15pm by a boy who was attending prayers at the mosque before he informed the others.
A witness, Ahmad Abdullah, 59, said he was getting ready to pray before the boy informed him there was a box with a baby inside.
“The box was on the pavement of the mosque. When I came about 1pm I did not see any box on the sidewalk at the front of the mosque so we believe the baby had just been left there. We, the members of the congregation, were shocked on discovering the baby,” he told reporters here today.
He said the baby was asleep and they took her into the mosque before calling the police.
Ahmad said the baby was in a healthy condition and the umbilical cord was believed to have been cut before she was wrapped in batik cloth and placed inside the box.
Meanwhile, Seberang Perai Utara District Police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor when contacted, confirmed a baby girl had been found abandoned and had been sent to Kepala Batas Hospital for further examination. – BERNAMA
