NST bags two MGBF Golden Quill media awards

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times (NST) bagged two out of 17 awards in the inaugural Malaysia Global Business Forum (MGBF) Golden Quill media awards on Thursday night.

NST group editor Rashid Yusof won the 'Best Sports Industry Development Award' while foreign editor Azman Abdul Hamid took home the 'Best International Business Reporting Award'.

Handing the awards were founder and MGBF chairman Nordin Abdullah and National Press Club president Datuk Ahirudin Attan.

"The Malaysian media has taken impressive steps to improve the capacity of the industry in the last year, (as such)

we want to recognise those at the cutting edge of this development,” said Nordin. who is also an exco member of the Malaysia Australia Business Council.

In the other categories, Straits Times' Malaysian bureau chief Shannon Teoh won the 'Best International Bureau Coverage Award'; columnist and commentator Hafidz Baharom took home the 'Most Influential Commentary Award' while The Mole's Zaidi Azmi was recognized as the 'Emerging Reporter of the Year.'

Other winners include, Bernama's Current Affairs executive producer Gerard Ratnam (Best International Business Community Coverage Award); The Sun's advertising and marketing manager Satthivel Murugan (Best Local Business Marketing Award); Star Media Group Business Development senior manager Juniza Yasmin (Best Integrated Media Award); Star Media Group editor Shaun Orange (Best SME and Local Business Coverage);

PR Newswire's Christine Pereira (Most Innovative News Distribution); Astro Awani's Shafizan Johari  (Most Innovative Data Driven Journalism); Property360Digest/Property on Traxx/iHaus Property Portal's Gunaprasath Bupalan (Best Property Industry Reporting); Free Malaysia Today's Robin Augustin (Best CSR Reporting); Harvestmedia founder Chau Yen Loong (Emerging Data Analytics Firm); director Harizal Zain (Best Social Media Video Development); Bernama News Channel's Rafe’aton Md Ali and Nor Hayati Yaakub (Best Report on Women in Business).

At the event, MGBF also handed out a special contribution to the Journalist Welfare Fund, and made additional contributions to the Malaysia Cricket Association and Selangor MAC Futsal team.
