KOTA KINABALU: Media Prima Bhd bagged five main prizes and nine merits at the 2024 Kinabalu Press Awards.
New Straits Times team consisting of Roy Goh, Olivia Miwil, Ersie Anjumin and Paul Mu won the team entry for News Reporting category.
Their award-winning entry covered the Kinabalu Move, a week-long political event where the Sabah government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, teetered on the edge of collapse.
Olivia also won merit prizes for News Reporting category; Culture and Entertainment; and Business & Reporting category.
Roy won a merit for Journalism Award category.
Harian Metro's Recqueal Raimi won the main prize for story "Bakat Luar Biasa Isabelle" for Sports Journalism category.
Berita Harian's Izwan Abdullah won merit prizes for News Reporting and Sports Journalism categories.
In the broadcasting category, TV3 reporter Safwan Sawi and videographer Mohammed Fairuz Yazeer won the main prizes for the Culture and Environment, Business and Economic categories, as well as merit prize for Entertainment category.
For the Journalism Award, TV3's Mohammed Yazzer Mahmun and Joseph George P Loling won the main prize, while Safwan and Azaman Awang won the other two merits.
Present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Sabah Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai; and Sabah Journalists Association president Datuk Mugunthan Vanar.
