MP: Kuala Pilah road congestion expected to be solved in two years

SEREMBAN: The traffic congestion in Kuala Pilah which worsens during weekends and school holidays is expected to be solved in two years.

Kuala Pilah Member of Parliament, Eddin Syazlee Shith, said at the moment, a proposal to widen the road from Ulu Bendul to Terachi had been sent to Works Ministry.

He said a study on the cost to implement the work showed that the road widening work is estimated to cost around RM100 million to RM130 million.

“If the plan is executed and successful, I believe the traffic congestion problem from Seremban to Kuala Pilah will be resolved.

“I know the difficulty face by many road users who use the road as I am also using the same route frequently. Minister of Works Baru Bian had visited Kuala Pilah recently and I had submitted the proposal,” he said.

“He (Baru Bian) agreed to look into this matter. Therefore, there are many things to consider and take into account before any decision can be made,” he told reporters after a breaking of fast event with Negri Sembilan members of the Press held here last night.

Commenting further, the Communications and Multimedia deputy minister said that since most of the users of the route are from the east coast, the state government will work with Pahang state government to solve the problem.

“I believe the government will do whatever is best for the people, including those in Seremban and Kuala Pilah who always use the route.

“We hope that we will be able to solve the problem in one or two years and as Kuala Pilah MP, this is among my priorities,” he said.

Asked on the proposed alternative routes in conjunction with Aidilfitri soon, he said some quarters had suggested using routes in the rural area.

However, he said using the routes would require more maintenance works to ensure the safety of the road users as the routes are relatively narrow.

“But for now, I think that’s the best suggestion in order to avoid congestion,” he said.
