Unending road repairs cause continuous traffic congestion, claims Puad

KUALA LUMPUR: A veteran politician has lamented the ongoing traffic congestion issues plaguing the highways in Malaysia, particularly the route from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi said the problem did not only occur during the holiday season, attributing the heavy traffic to unending road repairs and inefficient road closures.

"Every day, at any time, be it at night, dawn or morning, traffic jams are constant, especially on the KL to Johor Baru route," he wrote on his Facebook.

Puad, who is also Johor state assembly speaker, recounted his own experience from a meeting the night before.

"I encountered three traffic jams at 11pm. I thought there would be fewer cars at night, but it was still congested.

"The grass cutting and collection of debris from burst tyres are also causing kilometres-long congestion on the highways."

He also pointed out that the current lane closure system was inefficient and outdated.

"It is frustrating for highway users who pay tolls," he added.
