KUCHING: PKR will not take any action against its Santubong Youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz until police complete their investigations.
Party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he was aware that there were calls for the party to initiate an investigation on Haziq and those who had allegedly leaked the data of party leaders and members.
"We strongly reject gutter politics but I will not punish him (Haziq) before the police complete their investigations. I think we should confine ourselves to facts.
“Let us move on and allow the police to do their job," he said.
The Port Dickson MP was asked to comment on PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s call for the need for such action if the party planned on staying relevant.
Anwar noted that the data of its members were made available to the party's candidates in the last general election.
The party political bureau, he said, decided to provide the data to any candidate contesting under PKR’s ticket to ensure they have access to 900,000 PKR members throughout the nation, to better prepare for the election.
"I would say hundreds or even thousands of people have had access (to the data of our members) since 2018.
“So, (like I said) it is best to leave it to the police," he told reporters after the Sarawak PKR Semarak Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebration held at the Youth and Sports Complex, here.
Anwar said he has faith that the police probe would be conducted in a professional manner and in accordance with the police’s standard operating procedure.
"We can only determine what to do when there's an outcome from the police or some sort of evidence," he added.
On Tuesday, a WhatsApp group blasted off several video clips of two men involved in a sexual tryst.
The following day, Haziq admitted that it was him in the video and alleged that the other person was Azmin.
Azmin has vehemently denied the allegations, saying it was part of a plot to assassinate his reputation, character and political career.
Haziq has been suspended from his official duties by Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
He was nabbed by the police as he was about to board a flight to Manila, the Philippines, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Friday (June 14) at about 6pm.
