Kampung Kuala Koh safe, authorities to lift 'red zone' order tomorrow

KOTA BARU: The ‘red zone’ declaration of Kampung Kuala Koh, Gua Musang, where 15 Orang Asli Batek tribe members died of measles, will be lifted tomorrow.

Gua Musang police chief Superintendent Mohd Taufik Maidin said the decision to lift the order was made after a meeting at the district's land office today.

It was based on the Health Department's observation on the health and hygiene issues in the area.

"In the meeting, chaired by Gua Musang acting district officer, we were told that Kampung Kuala Koh is now safe. The public can enter the area tomorrow, from 8am," he said when contacted today.

Following this, Taufik said roadblocks mounted by members of the General Operations Force (GOF) at the area would also be removed.

"All the 15 GOF members will be asked to return to their respective bases soon," he said.

Kuala Koh settlement was declared a `Red Zone' on June 11, following the death of the Orang Asli Bateq tribe members.

The 15, including children, died separately in May and early last month from what was initially thought to be of 'mysterious causes'.

However, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said post-mortems conducted on June 17 and 18 revealed that the victims died of measles.
