Roadside tree falls onto moving Perodua Viva, killing woman

KUANTAN: A roadside tree uprooted and fell onto a Perodua Viva as it travelled along Jalan Kampung Lata Kasah in Jerantut, on Monday night, killing the vehicle’s passenger.

The victim was identified as 27-year-old Farah Liana Safri, who died on the spot in the accident, which is estimated to have occurred at between 8.50pm and 10.50pm, Bernama reported.

The driver of the Viva, the victim’s sister, suffered injuries in the accident.

It is learnt that the sisters were returning home from Jerantut town when the tree fell onto their car, completely crushing the roof, in front of the Kampung Lata Kasah mosque.

Both the driver and passenger were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the police, with the assistance of firefighters.

“The victim’s remains were sent to the Jerantut Hospital for a post-mortem which revealed that she died of severe head injuries,” Jerantut district police chief Superintendent Mazlan Hassan said in a statement here, today.
