KUALA LUMPUR: Complaints on any insensitive posts or content that could disrupt national peace and unity in Malaysia can now be channelled directly to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
MCMC Chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak said reports on insensitive posts related to race, religion and royalty or referred to 3R can be directly submitted to the commission through the WhatsApp number 016 220 6262.
Complainants can also send an email to mediasosial@mcmc.gov.my by attaching the screenshot and URL link of the offensive posts.
He said the new complaints channel would accelerate enforcement action against those who post sensitive 3R content on social media and other online media platforms.
"To lodge a complaint, Malaysians just need to take a screenshot of the post and copy the link (URLs) of the inappropriate content on social media and submit them as described above (mediasosial@mcmc.gov.my)," he said.
Meanwhile, for 3R content distributed through the WhatsApp social application or messages circulated on WhatsApp groups, Al-Ishsal said the complaint must contain a screenshot of the inappropriate or negative message, attached with the individual's phone number before being submitted to the MCMC's Whatsapp number.
"The MCMC reminds Malaysians to practise moderation while commenting or making any statements involving sensitive issues, mainly 3R's, if we want to preserve the harmony and peace which we had achieved for the 62 years," he said.
Al-Ishsal said any review, comments and dissemination comprising negative remarks which could spark disharmony and threaten the unity of Malaysia’s multiracial make-up on social media and other online platforms must cease immediately.
“So, think before you make any statements or comments on sensitive matters.
“Never 'tweet', share and make comments that offend any community in this country.
Understand the meaning of ‘kemerdekaan’ and celebrate this meaningful month of independence," he added.
