AR Badul's son killed in army shooting demo

KOTA KINABALU: A shooting demonstration turned tragic when a soldier was killed after being shot at the Lok Kawi Camp, here, this morning.

It is learnt that Major Mohd Zahir Armaya, the son of popular comedian AR Badul, was playing the character of a criminal in the 8.30am demonstration.

The demonstration was part of the programme in conjunction with the launch of the Fifth Division of the Malaysian Infantry and the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade, here.

In the event, Mohd Zahir was clad in a white shirt and bullet vest. He was also wearing a face mask.

During the demo, he was seen facing a group of soldiers and firing shots at them at close range.

As part of the demonstration, a soldier fired a shot at Mohd Zahir.

He fell on his back and two soldiers dragged him to the side.

According to members of the media who were covering the event, Mohd Zahir's colleagues then checked on him but found him unconscious.

Mohd Zahir was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead and his body was sent to the mortuary.

Family members were present at the hospital, waiting for post-mortem results.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah was also present at the hospital's emergency department and met with army personnel.

When approached, Omar refused to comment, stressing he has yet to receive a full report of the incident.
