Man killed, friend badly hurt in KK nightclub brawl

KOTA KINABALU: One person was killed and his friend critically injured in a brawl involving a group of men at an entertainment centre in Jalan Bandaran Berjaya here early this morning.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (HQE), while his friend, also in his 20s, was admitted in critical condition and receiving treatment at the same hospital.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda said that they received a call about the incident from an employee at the centre around 2am. A police team rushed to the scene and arrived 10 minutes later.

"Investigations found that both victims were involved in a fight with the suspect, believed to be caused by a misunderstanding.

"Both seriously injured victims were taken to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead while the other is in critical condition," he said at the launch of the Amanita Motorcycle Patrol at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters at Dataran Deasoka today.

Kasim said the fight is believed to have started inside the entertainment centre.

"Reviewing the CCTV footage from the premises, the police identified some suspects, but their identities have not yet been confirmed.

"Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the suspects involved in the brawl," he said.

He added that both victims were Indonesian fishermen who possessed valid documents.

"The victims came to the entertainment centre for leisure, and checks revealed that the centre has been operating for six months," said Kasim
