KOTA KINABALU: An outing among students turned tragic when one of them drowned at the Kionsom waterfall tourist centre here this morning.
In the 10am incident, Hazlina Midon went for a swim and was later found floating in the water.
Her friends managed to get her out of the water before contacting the authorities.
Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Khatizah Rahaban said they received a distress call at 10.28am and dispatched a team to the scene.
Paramedics from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital tried to save the victim, but later pronounced her dead.
The victim’s body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.
